NorthernStar began in 1979 when Jack Hunter began flying sportsmen into the
backwoods regions of British Columbia with his DeHavilland DHC-2 beaver. He soon
added a second airplane and pilot to his business, and within five years was
operating a fleet of small aircraft to shuttle campers, fishermen, and hunters
to resort and wildlife areas. The airline was originally known as Hunter
Airways.
In 2005, Hunter Airways established code-sharing relationships with other
Canadian operators and changed its name to
NorthernStar Airways. The company specialized in charter
and feeder services to the major airports of western Canada with its
headquarters at Kelowna, BC.
NorthernStar Airways now operates franchises with locally owned FBO's in
British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, the Yukon, and is expecting to open
offices soon in Alaska and Hawaii..
