Purpose: Traffic Pattern landing in good weather
Aircraft: default Beech Baron
You are ten miles from CYCW Chilliwack, BC, at 2000 ft. Surface winds are 0 knots. Plan to make a downwind entry to Runway 24
The airport is straight ahead and a little to the left. Not really easy to see, so you might want to check its position in the GPS display. There are no nearby radio aids to help you locate Chilliwack, so this is strictly a visual operation. Announce your position; I've already selected Chilliwack on the ATC menu and full-stop landing.
Reduce throttle and descend to 1000'. The airport is only at 37 ft MSL, so you don't need to be very high. Remember, a traffic pattern is usually flown at 800 to 1000 ft above the airport. As you level off, extend landing gear and reduce speed to 100 knots. Turn to heading 060 parallel to the runway and, when even with the end of the runway, extend flaps. Begin a slow descent of 500 fpm, make your turn to base, announce Base, and when nearly abeam the runway, turn left again, announce Final, and land.
Taxi to the end of the runway, and as you exit the runway, announce "Clear of Runway" with the ATC function (key `). Then taxi onto the ramp, park, and shut off the engine. Good job!
